The Foundation Solidaridad por Colombia has been present in the department of Antioquia since 1981. During this time it has contributed to the development of vulnerable communities in all the national territory, intervening in them through different programs and projects, aimed at improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region and of the country.
During its first years the Foundation centered its operations in assistance in catastrophes and housing projects, the latter in association with the National Government.
Houses for 56 families were built in the Eduardo Santos neighborhood in Medellín. Likewise, in association with the Coca-Cola enterprise, the housing project “La Selva” was carried out in the El Cairo neighborhood of the Municipality of Bello in the north of the Metropolitan Area. These were the first housing projects with which the Antioquia Regional started its work. Interventions in the housing area took place later in the municipalities of Cañas Gordas, Bolívar and La Pintada in the Department of Antioquia.
In 1983 the Antioquia Regional of The Foundation Solidaridad por Colombia, started to carry out programs aimed at nutritional recovery of the infant population in vulnerable conditions. Also, in the same year the Integral Community Center November 13th was created in the neighborhood of the same name, located in the mid-eastern zone of the city.
The Integral Community Center was created starting from the needs of its settlers. At present, community projects flourish there and are aimed at the development of its inhabitants. Until the arrival of the Foundation in the sector, there was no library, nor schools, nor school restaurants for the children. Now, the Integral Community Center assists preschoolers, school restaurants, displaced population, elderly groups, and women’s clubs. It also has a beginner’s sports club, a library, bakery and clothes making workshops. It is also a meeting point for the inhabitants of the zone for cultural and entertainment activities.
